Does anyone else have a daughter who’s heart is ‘all over the map’? We do and she keeps us on our toes.
Priscilla has always been the fearless type. When we camped in Arkansas for the week with 4 little ones and 1 on the way (who’s idea was that?) we were inundated by bees. Not the ‘killer’ kind but the sweet ones. Mortified at the thought of being stung – we all ran for our lives, except Priscilla. She showed us how she could kill them one at a time and keep them at bay. Her older siblings cheered her on. I just laughed – so typical.
Priscilla’s an adult now, and has been for a while. She spent a year in Taiwan teaching English to children who hope for a better future. She attended, served and led EXCEL (Christian girls discipleship school) for 3 semesters and took award winning speeches (on abortion recovery and family planning) to NCFCA nationals her Senior year. Now she’s trained as a counselor for Midcities Pregnancy Center and serves coffee to pay the bills.
In this new year, she’s headed out again – but this time, not so far. Christ for the Nations (Bible school) brings the world to our ‘neck of the woods’ and we’re glad for that. She’s settled in with students from around the globe and studying hard. It will be interesting to see where the Lord leads her from here. Meanwhile, the world has come to her and we’re all so pleased because we get to see her, often.
We’ve made it real clear through the years to our kids that it’s not superior religion to do big things out there. God doesn’t love us for our works and we can’t perform for Him – He performed for us! Romans 5:8 What’s required of us, is to be faithful, in public and private. Priscilla’s being faithful to His call – and it blesses our hearts as parents. There is ‘no greater joy than to know your children walk in the truth’, I Corinthians 4:14 Whether at home with little ones, on the job as a provider, or in school – our adult kids bless us tremendously. Although I rarely mention them on this blog, they’re a vital part of our lives, and our closest friends.
As parents, we’re thankful for quality organizations to help train our kids of all ages to better equip them for the days ahead. The landscape of Christian training has drastically changed over the last couple of decades. I find it fascinating – what the Lord is doing. Preparing his people.
‘For such a time as this’. Esther 4:14
